With an MD in Anaesthesiology, Dr. Yohannan John began his medical career at some of the leading healthcare institutions in the country like Kasturba Medical College and Manipal Hospital, Mangalore. He also took an additional role of teaching where he was Assistant Professor in Anaesthesiology at St. John’s Medical College. He further went to the UK and Ireland for specialized training. Over the span of four years while in the UK he worked in some of the leading, teaching hospitals in Europe including Beaumont Hospital (Royal College of Surgeons Hospital, Ireland), St. James Hospital (Trinity College) & Crumlin Children’s Hospital. These were all national referral centres for various specialties including trauma, neuro surgery, vascular, orthopaedic, plastic surgery, paediatric surgery and intensive care. This resulted in Dr. John, building a varied and wide experience. Returning to India in 1999 Dr. John joined Bhagavan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bangalore (a leading 250 beds, super specialty Hospital). He worked as a consultant anaesthetist and went on to head the Department of Anaesthesia. He was subsequently appointed on the hospital advisory council. Dr. John has given a number of lectures both nationally and locally and is involved in post graduate teaching and research programmes. He is a well-known and highly regarded anaesthetist. At SPARSH Hospital he plays multiple roles. He is the Chief of the Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Management Services. He also acts as the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.
Dr. John is the National Executive Member for the Research Society of Anesthesiology & Clinical Pharmacology.
He is also the founder member of AIDiAA (All India Difficult Airway Association) & Joint sectretary and treasurer of the “Indian Institute of Pediatrics and Anesthetics”.
He believes strongly in responsible healthcare. Healthcare that does not discriminate between social and economic classes. He advocates that it is the moral responsibility of every healthcare institution to create affordable healthcare. He has always been passionate about nature, taking time whenever he can go to explore game parks and trekking trails nearby. He plays tennis and likes classical music.
